The Poptop team made the difference that happened once in a while. If you develop a new title, you need a stronger design process that sets a cohesive vision for the game. ![]() There, however, one could follow the design ideas that the predecessor had already presented. They worked with this project as they were used to from the train station. However, the developers didn’t develop a single design philosophy for this game. The goal was to make an effort, that was combined with elements of a political game. It was decided to construct buildings and to simulate individual people. They agreed to use the Railroad Tycoon 2 engine. The team suffered from an unexpected problem working on their first idea. The limited team of 4 artists and 2 programmers achieved at present a respectable success with the train Tycoon 2, the successor of Sid Meiers’s legendari railway simulation. And with this they also laid the foundation for a game series that is still popular today and is being used for its seventh part in the next few years. It’s amazing that the developers of the US studio Poptop Software have nonetheless delivered a very successful building game. The development of Tropico, now 50.79, wasn’t easy. The humorous parts were really hardly understood with the later parts, but the foundations of this are now laid in the first part of the year 2001.
